November 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 46

2000 Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000 AWD GC8
*** NO RESERVE***

Registration - W661 UAW

Chassis No. - JF1GC8KD3YG052007

M.O.T. - January 2023

Odometer - 144,000

Imprezas never fail to catch the eye, and this late first generation example certainly looks the part, with the effect of its silver bodywork enhanced by the gold hue of its alloy wheels and the sheer scale of its rare and original P1 rear spoiler. The generally black interior trim is matched to blue fabric-covered seats and appears to be standard aside of the Apexi turbo timer fixed ahead of the driver. The vendor informs us that this 144,000 mile Subaru still ‘pulls like a train and is a seriously quick car with great grip, good brakes and an excellent set of original wheels shod with good tyres’. Overall he grades the flat-four engine and five-speed manual gearbox as ‘good’, the four-door bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as ‘average’, and volunteers that the body will require some attention going forward. He is now offering the Impreza complete with ‘lovely sounding’ performance exhaust, an additional set of white wheels, spare front grille, STI splitter, Kenwood CD/radio player, the original handbook and large history file including invoices, plus a service book with 15 stamps.

The Impreza has been a staple of the Subaru range since 1992, and there are those that regard the last of the first generation 2000 Turbos as the production sweet-spot. The combination of that torquey low-slung force-fed boxer engine coupled with four-wheel drive, five-speed manual gearbox, stiffened suspension and powerful disc brakes all neatly packaged into a practical family saloon makes as much sense today as it did 20 years ago. The model still feels quick with a 0-60mph time of c.six seconds and top speed north of 140mph, while the unique sound of the flat-four engine never fails to excite. All that, plus Subaru’s success on the world rally stage, has long since made these cars a go-to option for performance drivers.

In summary:

• Presented in the eye-catching livery of silver with gold wheels

• Spec. includes rare P1 rear spoiler and Apexi turbo timer

• Comes with large history file and a number of spares
