November 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 47

2001 BMW Z3 1.9
*** NO RESERVE ***

Registration - BF51 TTJ

Chassis No. - WBACM12040LH98070

M.O.T. - July 2023

Odometer - 72,949

The retro styling of the Z3 is still appealing to many eyes and is accentuated by the mid metallic blue in which ‘BF51 TTJ’ is presented. The look is further enhanced by the car’s upgraded BMW alloy wheels and the recently replaced black hood. The half-leather black interior looks equally well cared for and it is of little surprise that the vendor currently grades the four-cylinder engine, five-speed manual gearbox and upholstery as ‘excellent’, and the two-seater bodywork and paintwork as ‘good to excellent’, and adds that there is ‘no rust or rot’. Other recent replacements include the tyres, dampers and brake pipes. The BMW currently displays a total of 72,949 miles from new and has had just five keepers to date, the most recent of whom retained the car from 2014. It is now being offered complete with electrically-adjustable seats, Pioneer CD/radio, tool kit, spare keys, handbook, full service history and an advisory-free MOT valid to July 12 next year.

Based on the E36 saloon platform, BMW’s characterful Z3 two-seater was in production from 1995 to 2002 and offered with a range of four and six-cylinder engines from 1.8 to 3.0-litres in capacity. The retro styling was the work of Joji Nagashima and, while the model utilised the semi-trailing arm rear suspension of the older E30 3 Series model, the newcomer broke new ground by becoming the first BMW to be solely manufactured outside Germany – ie in Greer, South Carolina, USA. The 1.9-litre (1895cc) version that remained in production from 1995 to 1999, was powered by a 138bhp straight-four engine of sufficient performance to sprint the two-seater to 62mph in around 9.5 seconds and on to a top speed of just under 130mph.

In summary:

  • A well-presented example in a pleasing colour
  • Just five keepers and 72,949 miles from new
  • Comes with full service history and advisory-free MOT
