An Auction of Classic and Performance Cars and Motorcycles

  Lot 47

2003 Ford Mondeo ST220
*** NO RESERVE ***

Registration - MJ03 GBX

Chassis No. - WF05XXGBB53E44954

M.O.T. - TBC

Odometer - 62,000

The body kit that differentiates the ST220 from its less sporting siblings is accentuated by the silver livery of the sale car, which itself is complemented by pale grey leather interior trim and its-period correct multi-spoke alloy wheels. A very tidy example, ‘MJ03 GBX’ has had just three keepers to date, the most recent of whom has retained the Ford since 2015. Said to be completely original throughout, the car has apparently been dry stored for the last few years, though started at regular intervals. The vendor presently regards the V6 engine, five-speed manual transmission and ‘immaculate’ upholstery as all being in ‘excellent’ condition, and grades the four-door bodywork and paintwork as ‘good’. He is now selling the Mondeo complete with Kenwood radio/CD and a full 12 months’ worth of MOT. The odometer currently stands at 62,000 miles.

The Mondeo replaced the UK’s Ford Sierra and Scorpio ranges in 1992, and was the company’s first so-called ‘world’ car, the design and marketing of which was shared between Ford of America and Ford of Europe. Unlike its predecessors it was either front-wheel or all-wheel drive rather than rear-wheel drive. The design was distinctive and, following a fairly major facelift in 1996, continued in production until 2000. Its reign was notable for the introduction of a new brand for use on the flagship models. First up was the ST24 that had a go-faster look even though the output of its 2.5-litre engine was no more than that of its similarly-engined siblings. This was replaced in 1999 by the limited edition ST200 that boasted a 202bhp 2.5-litre SVT version of the Blue Oval’s proven V6 Duratec engine. With the theme well established by the advent of the Generation 2 Mondeo in 2001, the Blue Oval opted for a newly developed 3.0-litre version of the Duratec V6 unit to power it ST220 model, the 226bhp output of which was good enough for a 0-60mph time of around seven seconds and top speed of 155mph.

In summary:

  • A very tidy three-owner example
  • Apparently stored for the last few years, but regularly started
  • Comes complete with radio/CD player and 12 months MOT
