An Auction of Classic and Performance Cars and Motorcycles

  Lot 49

1997 Mercedes-Benz SLK 230 Kompressor
*** NO RESERVE ***

Registration - R168 BMV

Chassis No. - WDB1704472F041859

M.O.T. - September 2023

Odometer - 77,375

This attractive apparently unmolested baby Benz is finished in the unusual colour of Moonstone Yellow, trimmed in black leather and rides on silver-painted five-spoke alloy wheels. There have been a total of just five keepers to date, the previous one of which retained the SLK for 10 years and it has been in the vendor’s care for the last nine. He informs us that it ‘starts, runs and drives as it should, is always garaged and only used in fine weather’. He currently considers the supercharged engine, automatic transmission, convertible bodywork, paintwork and upholstery to all be in ‘good’ order. He is now selling the SLK complete with the aforementioned 17-inch alloy wheels, full service history and a selection of old MOTs, plus a current one valid to September 20. We understand the currently indicated total mileage of 77,372 is supported by the accompanying MOT certificates.

Mercedes introduced the SLK-Class in 1996, which was in its third generation by the time production ceased in 2020. It was immediately notable for its electro-hydraulic folding metal roof, or ‘vario-roof’ in Mercedes parlance. Built on a shortened C-Class platform, the two-seater roadster was well-equipped, with driver and passenger airbags, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, electrically adjustable seats, electric windows, power steering and alloy wheels all part of the standard package. Some 102,754 examples were equipped with the 190bhp 2.3-litre supercharged engine, the performance of which was sufficient to accelerate the model to 60mph in around 7.4 seconds.

In summary:

  • An attractive apparently unmolested example
  • Five keepers and a warranted 77,372 miles from new
  • Being sold at No Reserve
