The Gold Cup Classic Car Auction

  Lot 49

1998 Daimler Super V8
Only 71,000 miles

Registration - FJZ 3223

Chassis No. - SAJDKANF3CR837243

M.O.T. - November 2022

Odometer - 71,875

It’s not immediately obvious, but this is a rare car, the specification and performance of which may well surprise you! It is beautifully presented in a stately shade of metallic blue and sumptuously trimmed throughout in light grey hide. It wants for nothing in terms of its specification that includes: electrically adjustable seats front and rear; driver’s seat memory settings; electrically adjustable steering wheel, windows, mirrors and sunroof; cruise control; ‘ice-cold’ climate control air-conditioning; rear blinds and picnic tables; and lambswool over rugs. A (now disabled) state-of-the-art communications system lends credence to the rumour that ‘FJZ 3223’ was once a member if the Irish diplomatic fleet, though there is nothing to substantiate that suggestion. The vendor is the Daimler’s sixth keeper and he informs us that the long wheelbase limo ‘is in very good condition inside and out and drives very well’. Small wonder that he classes the supercharged V8 engine, six-speed automatic gearbox, bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as all being in ‘excellent’ order. The odometer currently displays a credible though unwarranted total miles to date of 71,875, and the Daimler is being offered complete with a degree of service history, full set of handbooks, lots of invoices and old MOTs, plus a current one valid until November 19. Serious value in today’s market.

A veritable wolf in sheep’s clothing, the Super V8 derivative of Jaguar/Daimler’s X308 model was powered by a 370bhp supercharged version of the company’s 4.0-litre V8 engine. This could whisk the luxurious blend of leather and wood to 60mph in just 5.3 seconds while, thanks to the firm’s sophisticated ‘CATS’ adaptive suspension system, the limo was no slouch through the turns either.

In summary:

  • A fine-looking example of a rare and desirable breed
  • One of only 2,387 long-wheelbase Super V8s made
  • Thought to have once belonged to the Irish diplomatic fleet
