Lot 49

2004 Alfa Romeo 166

Chassis No. - ZAR93600000090697

Registration - AO04 UDH

M.O.T. - September 2021

Odometer - 120,000

The vendor of this smartly-presented 166 saloon informs us that all five of its keepers have been Alfa enthusiasts and that it is ‘in very nice condition inside and out and drives beautifully’. Between them they have clocked up a total of 120,000 miles – 63,000 of which have been recorded on a second, replacement speedometer. The lusty Giuseppe Busso designed 3.2-litre V6 engine drives through a six-speed manual gearbox. The four-door bodywork is finished in a mid-shade of metallic grey that’s paired with black leather interior trim, the front seats of which feature the Alfa Romeo motif on the backrests. The comprehensive history accompanying the vehicle confirms the car has always been maintained within the franchise and comprises 14 service stamps. The cambelt was changed at 72,000 miles and appears to have to have been so again more recently, along with the tensioners, as have the rocker cover gaskets. ‘AO04 UDH’ is now being sold complete with its original book pack, two keys/fobs and an MOT valid until September 3 this year.

Alfa’s four-door front-wheel drive 166 saloon was a replacement for the 164 and available in right-hand drive form from 1998 to 2005. The model received a significant facelift in 2003, which included upgrades to the chassis interior and engine range – the styling was also substantially amended, resulting in a front-end similar to that of the 156. Among the new engine options was the Busso-designed 3.2-litre V6 unit, as fitted to the sale car. Its 245bhp output was sufficient to power the model to 60mph in around 7.4 seconds and on to a terminal speed of over 150mph. Total production of all versions of the 166 amounted to around 100,000 units.

In summary:

  • An apparently clean, tidy example inside and out
  • Equipped with the lusty 3.2-litre engine option
  • Full service history
