  Lot 5

1982 Ford Cortina 2.0 GL
Has recently undergone a full restoration

Registration - TPL 805X

Chassis No. - SFAFXXBABFCY60607

M.O.T. - May 2022

Odometer - 6,237

This smart late-model Cortina is presented in an eye-catching shade of metallic brown that’s complemented by a black Everflex roof and wide-rim alloy wheels shod with a fresh-looking set of matching tyres. We understand the car was treated to a complete rebuild by the previous keeper, who also personalised it with a chin spoiler and white front indicator lenses in addition to the wheel upgrade. The restoration work included the refurbishment of the Cortina’s 2.0-litre Pinto engine, during which it was treated to a new Weber carburettor, K&N air filter, coil, HT leads, battery and exhaust system, and its radiator and starter motor were reconditioned. Fresh brakes and brake pipes were also installed, and the cushions of the chestnut-coloured velour seats were re-foamed. The vendor now regards the Cortina’s four-cylinder engine, four-speed manual transmission and upholstery as ‘excellent’, and its four-door bodywork and refreshed paintwork as being in ‘good’ order. Considering how full the roads once were of Ford’s ubiquitous Cortina, it is surprising how rare an opportunity the sale of ‘TPL 805X’ presents.

A legend of its time, the Ford Cortina was produced in five generations over the 20 years between 1962 and 1982, during which period it dominated the UK sales charts. The car on offer is a Mark V model – the last of the breed that reigned from 1979 to the end of production. Codenamed Teresa and heavily based on its predecessor, it was half way between a facelift and a re-body. Visual differences included a flattened roof, bigger glass area, slimmer C pillars, larger tail lights and upgraded trim, all of which brought the styling in line with the rest of the model range.

In summary:

  • A smartly presented example in an eye-catching colour
  • Rebuilt and upgraded by the previous keeper
  • Seven recorded owners from new
