September 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 5

1986 Volkswagen Golf 1300
*** NO RESERVE ***

Registration - D413 DHP

Chassis No. - WVWZZZ19ZHW311040

M.O.T. - 21st September 2023

Odometer - 101,484

This interesting MKII Golf has only had five keepers from new, and clearly enjoyed a lot of attention in recent times. This has included the replacement of the O/S front wing, front and rear bumpers and door mirrors, and a complete respray in Volkswagen Denim Blue. It has also benefited from the installation of a Weber carburettor and manual choke, KW V2 coilover suspension units and a set of JR6 8x16 alloy wheels shod with ‘stretched’ Hankook tyres. The vendor now classes the 1272cc engine, five-door bodywork and new paintwork as ‘excellent’, the four-speed manual gearbox as ‘good’, and the undeniably tired grey cloth interior trim as ‘below average’. He is now offering the VW complete with Pioneer sound system, Vibe boot-mounted sub-woofer and extensive service history, plus the original wheels/tyres and rear light clusters, and a pair of brand new front fog lights. The odometer currently stands at 101,484 miles.

James May once described the Volkswagen Golf as ‘the only car that really needs to exist’, and for 48 years it has been the small family car to beat.

Launched in 1983, the second generation version was bigger overall than the original design and more rounded in shape. It was available with a range of engines from 1.0 to 2.0-litres, and in three or five-door hatchback guise. Worldwide sales of the model ultimately totalled 6.3 million units.

'A Buyer’s Premium applies to the Hammer Price of this Lot if your bid is successful, as per the following;  Motor Cars 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT), Motorcycles and Bicycles 15% + VAT (minimum £100 + VAT); Registration Numbers 15% + VAT (minimum £50 + VAT); Automobilia 15% + VAT (minimum of £5 + VAT).'

Potential buyers should satisfy themselves with the description and condition of each lot prior to sale. Each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ as per the terms and conditions for the auction, buyers are asked to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out the service.
