The Bolesworth Castle November 2023 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 5

1999 Subaru Impreza 2000 Turbo
***NO RESERVE*** The subject of much recent expenditure on maintenance and upgrades

Registration - V641 FMS

Chassis No - JF1GC8KD3XG043731

M.O.T. - November 2023

Odometer - 120,000

This eye-catching Scooby is finished in green, trimmed in black/blue cloth and rides on gold-coloured five-spoke alloy wheels. It is a seven-keeper example that has received a fair degree of mechanical attention over the last two years or so. This has included the fitment of new: timing belt, water pump and rocker cover gaskets; Forge blow off valve and silicone hoses; clutch, flywheel and bearings; clutch master and slave cylinder; custom 2.5” straight through Jap exhaust; Group N short-shift gearbox; brake discs, calipers, lines, hoses, links and gaskets; coilovers; anti-roll bars and drop links; STI fog light covers and other such upgrades; P1 splitter and Version 6 high-rise rear spoiler. The vendor adds that the previous owner replaced the rear arches and sunroof and had the Impreza resprayed. He also notes that the sunroof is currently only ‘semi-functional’, there is evidence of slight bubbling on the sills and driver’s side windscreen pillar, and some play in the front ball joints/bushes. He now grades the flat-four engine and five-speed manual transmission as ‘excellent’, and the four-door bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as ‘average’. ‘V641 FMS’ is now for sale complete with Kenwood stereo and a degree of service history.

The Impreza has been a staple of the Subaru range since 1992, and there are those that regard the last of the first generation 2000 Turbos as the production sweet-spot. The combination of that torquey low-slung force-fed boxer engine coupled with four-wheel drive, five-speed manual gearbox, stiffened suspension and powerful disc brakes all neatly packaged into a practical family saloon makes as much sense today as it did 20 years ago. The model still feels quick with a 0-60mph time of c.six seconds and top speed north of 140mph, while the unique sound of the flat-four engine never fails to excite. All that, plus Subaru’s success on the world rally stage, has long since made these cars a go-to option for performance drivers.

In summary:

  • A seven-keeper, 120,070-mile example
  • The subject of lots of recent maintenance and upgrades
  • Potentially a lot of fun per pound
