An Auction of Classic and Performance Cars and Motorcycles

  Lot 50

1999 Mercedes-Benz SLK 230 Kompressor
*** NO RESERVE ***

Registration - T593 HFV

Chassis No. - WDB1704472F134720

M.O.T. - May 2024

Odometer - 112,900

‘T593 HFV’ was first registered in June 1999. Its strident red bodywork contrasts well with the black leather interior trim and its silver-painted seven-spoke alloy wheels. According to the odometer the car’s five owners to date have amassed a total 112,815 miles between them. The most recent keeper acquired the Mercedes eight months ago and currently rates the supercharged engine and automatic transmission as ‘good’, and the two-door bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as ‘average’, and adds that its ‘a nice car that runs well, but which could be improved cosmetically’. It is certainly an attractive example, though was declared a Category C write off back in December 2009. The vendor is now offering the baby Benz complete with Sony radio/cassette and plans for it to have a fresh MOT by the time of the sale.

Mercedes introduced the SLK-Class in 1996, which was in its third generation by the time production ceased in 2020. It was immediately notable for its electro-hydraulic folding metal roof, or ‘vario-roof’ in Mercedes parlance. Built on a shortened C-Class platform, the two-seater roadster was well-equipped, with driver and passenger airbags, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, electrically adjustable seats, electric windows, power steering and alloy wheels all part of the standard package. Some 102,754 examples were equipped with the 2.3-litre supercharged engine, the performance of which was sufficient to accelerate the model to 60mph in around 7.4 seconds.

In summary:

  • A generally tidy five-keeper 112,815-mile example
  • Declared a Category C write off in 2009
  • Being sold at No Reserve
