September 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 51

1984 Alfa Romeo Giulietta RS

Registration - B810 UUD

Chassis No. - ZAR116A1003003085

M.O.T. - March 2023

Odometer - 51,300

So when did you last see one of these? First UK registered in October 1984, this particular righthand drive Giulietta must be multilingual by now, as it is thought to have emigrated to Spain in the late 1990s before at some stage moving to Holland, where it was dry stored for a full decade as part of a private collection. Since finally returning to these shores in November 2021 it has been through a recommissioning programme that included a small amount of welding to the inner wings and the replacement of the brake master cylinder, rear brake discs and pads, propshaft rubbers and bearing, and carburettor gaskets. The vendor now classes the car’s four-door saloon bodywork, silver paintwork and grey fabric upholstery as ‘excellent’, the five-speed manual transmission as ‘good/excellent’, and the 2.0-litre twin-cam engine as ‘very good’. The relatively modest total indicated mileage of 51,300 is apparently supported by the accompanying receipts for work done, and the Giulietta is now available for sale complete with a current MOT valid to March 30, 2023.

In common with the Alfetta chassis on which it was based, the Tipo 116 Giulietta featured a rear-mounted transaxle. Production of the conventionally-shaped three-box saloon ran from 1977 to 1985, during which no more than around 380,000 examples were manufactured. UK registrations for the model never progressed beyond a few hundred, and information on one relevant website suggests ‘B810 UUD’ could be one of just two RS derivatives currently licensed for our roads. The four-cylinder twin-cam petrol engine options ranged from 1357cc to a 1962cc turbo unit, while a 1995cc diesel one could also be specified. The normally-aspirated 1962cc powerplant, as per the sale car, delivered 128bhp – sufficient to sprint the Alfa to 62mph in 9.4 seconds and on to a top speed of around 115mph.

In summary;

  • A tidy example of a rare model
  • Recommissioned since returning to the UK in 2021
  • Relatively low overall mileage backed by paperwork
