March 2023 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 51

2005 Jaguar XK8 4.2 S Convertible
Rare, limited edition model

Registration - KT05 TOD

Chassis No. - SAJAC42P762A46486

M.O.T. - April 2023

Odometer - 76,386

The vendor of this special edition 4.2 S purchased the car earlier this year with the intention of taking it on tour. However, the trip never transpired, meaning this handsome Pewter-coloured, seven-owner example is now available for sale once more. Within the last few months it has been treated to a change of fluids and filters and a new set of spark plugs. Its keeper presently rates the V8 engine, ZF six-speed automatic transmission and black interior trim as ‘excellent’, and the convertible bodywork and paintwork as ‘good’. He adds that the XK is ‘very smart and presents and drives beautifully’. It comes complete with handbook, copy maintenance book, pair of keys and an extensive history file containing lots of invoices and old MOTs, plus a current certificate valid to 25th April.

Like the E-Type before it, the XK8 made its debut at the Geneva Salon. At the time of the newcomer’s unveiling in 1996, its maker was owned by Ford, as was Aston Martin, and it therefore made sound economic sense for the XK8 and similarly targeted DB7 to share the same platform; which itself was derived from that of the outgoing XJS. The biggest of many differences between new and old, was the adoption of Jaguar’s second generation independent rear suspension system, previously found on the XJ40 Saloon. From 2003 onwards, power came from either a normally aspirated (XK8) or supercharged (XKR) 4.2-litre version of the company’s DOHC V8 AJ26 engine. The special edition 4.2 S unveiled at the 2005 Geneva Salon brought four extra colours, uprated facias in elm wood or carbon, special leather trim, darkened rear light clusters, chequered flag emblems on the tread plates and bonnet Growler badge etc.

In summary:

  • A well-presented example of the rare 4.2 S model
  • Seven keepers and 76,386 miles to date
  • Comes complete with extensive history file
