September 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 52

1967 Fiat Abarth 850 TC Tribute
An exacting recreation of the 600D ‘Derivata’ racing cars of the 1960s

Registration - Not UK registered

Chassis No. - 100D.2472263

M.O.T. - N/A

Odometer - 4,800

This little stunner will quicken the pulse of anybody old enough to recall the giant-killing Abarth racers that won their class in the European Touring Car Championships of ‘65, ‘66, ‘67 and ‘69 – Italy’s answer to the Mini-Cooper, they always punched above their weight. Presented in outstanding condition throughout, the sale car began life in its native country as a standard Fiat 600D before being exported to the USA, which is where it was transformed into a tribute to the Abarth 850 Turismo Competition (TC) racers. The resulting specification is impressive: 847cc engine producing approx. 50bhp at 5,200rpm and equipped with upgraded water pump, alternator and cooling fan in deference to modern traffic; four-speed manual transmission; independent suspension all-round; front disc brakes. The muscular bodywork features the wider ‘Corsa’ front bumper of the 1000 TC racers, which houses the radiator and oil cooler. The Abarth rides on a set of rare period-correct Melber 5.5x13 alloy wheels shod with Pirelli P700 tyres, while the very tidy red vinyl interior boasts a Momo Prototipo steering wheel as well as a period instrument cluster complete with Jaeger gauges.

The vendor purchased the car at the January 2018 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. Though all EU taxes have been paid, the car is yet to be UK registered, but does come complete with: its previous Arizona title paperwork; 600D chassis stamp; and correct Fiat build plate, as well as a reproduction ‘tribute’ Abarth ID plate. The odometer presently registers just 4,819km (2,994 miles), which is understood to be the distance travelled since the completion of the conversion. Now available at a fraction of the cost of a genuine Abarth racer, this TC Tribute would surely be a sought-after entrant in the historic competition world as well as huge fun on the public roads. A unique opportunity.

In summary:

• A splendid tribute to the works 850 TC racers of the ‘60s

• Just 2,994 miles travelled since being converted

• All EU taxes paid but yet to be UK registered
