1996 Vauxhall Astra Merit 1.4 Auto

Registration - N16 HMA

Chassis No. - W0I000053T2633506

M.O.T. - May 2022

Odometer - 19,450

This very tidy three-door hatchback example of Vauxhall’s third generation Astra is notable for being a two owner (the first being the supplying dealer) car that’s travelled just 19,450 miles from new. It is finished in metallic red and trimmed in grey cloth, and is essentially unchanged from the day it came off the production line. According to the vendor ‘it runs and drives superbly and even retains its new-car smell’. He regards the interior as being in ‘excellent’ condition, and the exterior as ‘very good save for a few minor scuffs inflicted by the last elderly owner prior to his retirement from the roads’. Its 1.4-litre engine drives through an automatic gearbox and the Vauxhall is now offered complete with a current MOT certificate that’s valid until May 17 next year. A perfect purchase for a student heading to university, or indeed anybody else seeking an affordable runabout with most of its life ahead of it.

Released in 1991, Vauxhall’s third generation of its long running Astra model remained in production for seven years, and came in some 10 different levels of trim. The Merit was effectively the base model that was offered with the choice of 1.4-litre petrol power (as per the sale car) or either 1.7-litre normally-aspirated diesel or 1.7-litre turbo diesel. Now in its seventh generation, the Astra line is still going strong.

In summary:

  • Just two owners and 19,450 miles from new
  • Virtually unmarked interior
  • Long MOT
