  Lot 52

1999 Chevrolet Corvette C5 Targa Top

Registration - S733 NNV

Chassis No. - IGIYY22G4X5132458

M.O.T. - April 2023

Odometer - 79,441

This purposeful-looking lefthand drive Targa topped C5 combines Sebring Silver bodywork with a black leather interior. It sports a six-speed manual rather than automatic transmission, that has been enhanced courtesy of a Hurst short-shift linkage. Other modifications include a cat-back stainless steel exhaust system and rear light upgrade. ‘S733 NNV’ was imported to the UK in 2008 and has had a total of four keepers since its arrival, the most recent of whom has retained the Chevy for the last 10 years. He considers it to have ‘excellent’ engine and transmission and ‘good’ bodywork, paintwork and upholstery. Currently registering an unwarranted but entirely credible 79,441 miles from new, this handsome all-American sports car is being sold complete with new battery, large history file and a current MOT valid to April 20 next year.

The C5 was the fifth generation of Chevrolet’s iconic Corvette lineage that began with the C1 all the way back in 1953. It marked a big departure from its predecessor by featuring a hydroformed box frame – a design that provided a more suitable platform for the open-topped versions. A near perfect 50/50 weight distribution was achieved by moving the gearbox rearward and integrating it with the rear axle. This transaxle was connected to an all-new LS1 engine by torque tube. The output of the incoming all-alloy 5.7-litre V8 powerplant was 345bhp – sufficient to allow a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.5 seconds and an unfettered top speed of 175mph. Three versions of the C5 were produced – a Targa top, convertible and hardtop. In all cases the body panels were made from a lightweight composite material known as SMC (Sheet Moulded Composite).

In summary:

  • A very smartly-presented manual gearbox example
  • Comes with a number of upgrades and new battery
  • Has remained in the current ownership for 10 years
