An Auction of Classic and Performance Cars and Motorcycles

  Lot 52

1999 Jaguar XKR Convertible
*** NO RESERVE ***

Registration - T579 TVM

Chassis No. - SAJJGAFF3AR039980

M.O.T. - No M.O.T.

Odometer - Unknown

‘T579 TVM’ was first registered in May 1999 and has had a total of eight keepers to date. The current mileage is unknown due to a faulty odometer, but suffice to say that it was recorded at 97,984 at the time of the most recent MOT, which was carried out in May 2021. We understand the Jaguar has been dry stored since that time, but the vendor confirms that it ‘starts and drives’, and he currently considers its V8 engine, automatic transmission, convertible bodywork, red paintwork and cream leather upholstery to all be in ‘average’ condition. He is now selling the car complete with stainless steel exhaust system, factory-fitted radio/CD, bonnet leaper, and MOT history from 15,000 miles. As a result of what is thought to have been body or paintwork damage, this particular big cat was declared a category D write-off in 2016, but has survived to enjoy its remaining eight lives.

The Geoff Lawson-penned XK8 made its debut at the 1996 Geneva Salon and was immediately available in either coupe or convertible guise, both of which featured 2+2 seating. It also had the distinction of being the first Jaguar to be powered by an eight-cylinder engine. This then, was a cat with strong DNA but also its own distinctive personality. At the time of the newcomer’s unveiling, Jaguar Cars was owned by Ford, as was Aston Martin, and it made sound economic sense for the XK8 and similarly targeted DB7 to share the same platform. The biggest of many differences between the mechanics of the newcomer and the outgoing XJS, was the adoption of Jaguar’s second generation independent rear suspension system, while power came from a normally aspirated 4.0-litre version of the company’s new DOHC V8 AJ26 engine. The more performance oriented XKR debuted in 1998 and, thanks largely to the addition of an Eaton supercharger, delivered a rewarding 370bhp. Visual differences between the XKR and XK included a rear spoiler, mesh radiator grille and bonnet louvres.

In summary:

  • Dry stored for the last two years
  • Comes complete with stainless steel exhaust and factory radio/CD
  • Declared a Category D write-off, and being sold with No Reserve
