  Lot 53

1964 Morris Minor 1000 Turbo

Registration - 794WYB

Chassis No. - MA255D105557

M.O.T. - N/A

Odometer - TBC

This offering will come as something of a shock to those who thought Morris Minors were the preserve of district midwives. We don’t have too much detail on its many modifications, but suffice to say that it’s a very different proposition to the car that vacated Morris’s Cowley production line in 1964. Obvious changes to the exterior include subtle extensions to the wheelarches in order to accommodate a set of five-spoke Image alloy wheels, and a deep front spoiler. It would seem the original front brake drums have been replaced by a pair of discs, and the far from standard exhaust exits to the nearside rather than rear. The heart of the modified Moggie is a turbocharged A Series unit of 1293cc that has been very neatly plumbed courtesy of expensive silicone hoses. Nestling below them are such niceties as a wrapped four-branch exhaust manifold and alloy rocker cover. The interior has been equally upgraded, and below a full roll cage you will encounter a fine pair of Recaro front seats, dished leather-covered steering wheel, and a bespoke engine-turned centre console housing the stereo, additional instruments etc. The rear is equally sumptuous, with a quality of seating more akin to a Maserati than a humble Morris, the grey tones of which contrast nicely with black carpeting. Even the boot has been carpeted throughout, and a sizeable fire extinguisher mounted on the rear wall.

First registered in February 1964, ‘794 WYB’ was exported to Guernsey in 1996, returning to the mainland as recently as last year. The vendor currently views the unique engine, the five-speed manual gearbox to which it is attached, and two-door bodywork as ‘excellent’, and the Smoke Grey paintwork and charcoal-coloured fabric trim as ‘good’. He is now selling this fascinating labour of love complete with V5C and items of paperwork relating to its time in the Channel Islands.

In summary:

• A unique turbocharged example

• Upgrades also include five-speed gearbox, front discs, wide-rim alloy wheels

• A sumptuous interior with bespoke console and Recaro seats
