  Lot 53

1976 Ford Escort Estate 1.3L

Registration - PFE 632P

Chassis No. - CPADSC26164

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 95,623

‘PFE 632P’, a lefthand drive 1.3L estate version of Ford’s ubiquitous Escort, was imported from Portugal in 2019. Having inhabited sunny climes, it has avoided the need for any remedial welding, however, the underside has benefited from being stripped, blasted and re-undersealed, so should be able to resist the British winter weather with disdain. The rear suspension has been lowered somewhat and coilovers fitted to the front, while Polybushes have replaced the original rubber ones. The brakes lines have been renewed front to rear, as has the exhaust system, complete with a multi-branch fabricated manifold in place of the original cast one. The standard steel wheels have been re-powder coated and the original front seats replaced with cloth-covered Recaro items. The vendor currently grades the ‘Kent’ engine and four-speed manual transmission as ‘excellent’, the bodywork and blue paintwork as ‘below average’ and the black interior trim as ‘poor’. He adds ‘the Escort has recently done a 700-mile round trip with no issues at all’.

The Ford Escort is one of the motor industry’s longest running success stories, with over 4.1 million examples of the model being sold over a period of 33 years, and it was frequently Britain’s best-selling car during the 1980s and 1990s. The second of the six generations was ushered in in 1974 and reigned until 1980, making the sale car one of the last of the breed. Much squarer in shape than its predecessor it was offered in the four guises of two and four-door saloon, estate and van, and in various levels of trim and performance. Versions of the MKII were manufactured or assembled from CKD kits in England, Ireland, Germany, Australia, Israel, New Zealand, Holland and South Africa.

In summary:

  • A relatively rare LHD estate version of Ford’s all-conquering Escort
  • Imported from sunny Portugal in 2019
  • Underside has been stripped, blasted and undercoated
