November 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 53

1985 Porsche Carrera 3.2 Targa
Only 76,000 miles

Registration - C770 MDS

Chassis No. - WP0ZZZ91ZGS140605

M.O.T. - September 2023

Odometer - 112,391

This notably tidy 3.2 Targa came off line in December 9 1985, was first registered on January 21 1986 and supplied new to its first keeper by Porsche dealer Merlin Chatsworth. It is presented in the classic combination of Grand Prix White bodywork teamed with white-piped black leather interior trim and black Targa top. According to the car’s Porsche Certificate of Authenticity its list of optional equipment included: recoil bumpers, electric passenger door mirror, central locking, colour-keyed Fuchs alloy wheels, electric sports seats, rear wiper, front and rear spoilers and sports dampers. The vendor presently regards the flat-six engine, five-speed manual transmission and upholstery as ‘excellent’ and the paintwork as ‘good’. He is now offering the Porsche complete with fully-stamped service book (the last entry was made in August 2020), owner’s manual, the aforementioned Certificate, and various items of owner correspondence plus a current advisory free MOT valid into September next year. According to the service book the speedometer was renewed in in February 1990 at 35,678, meaning the Targa’s total mileage currently stands at 112,391.

Developed under the watchful eye of Porsche Chief Executive Peter Schutz, the 1984 model year 911 Carrera 3.2 made its debut at the 1983 Frankfurt Salon. Visually indebted to the outgoing 911 SC, the newcomer was made available in coupe, Targa and cabriolet guises and wore a revised front valance and subtle 'Carrera' script on its engine lid. Estimated to be 80 percent new, the model's 3,164cc (hence '3.2') flat-six engine was credited with developing some 231bhp and 209 lb ft of torque. Allied to a five-speed manual transmission, it proved both rev-happy and flexible, making the model capable of 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds and a 153mph top speed.

In summary:

  • A smartly-presented example
  • Comes complete with detailed history file, inc. Authenticity Certificate
  • Equipped with a desirable range of factory-fitted options
