Few post war British sports cars command quite the reverence afforded to the Jaguar XK150S 3.4 Litre Roadster. As the ultimate evolution of the XK line and the rarest, most powerful 3.4 litre variant, the ‘S’ specification cars represent the connoisseur’s choice. Disc braked, triple carburettor equipped and produced in comparatively modest numbers, they have long been regarded as the one to have. Offered here without reserve and accompanied by the wonderfully marque relevant registration ‘XKJ 150S’, this is an example certain to attract widespread attention.
Chassis T 831228 DN was manufactured on 29th August 1958 and is accompanied by a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate confirming that it was dispatched to the original supplying dealer, Jaguar Cars New York, on 12th September 1958. The Certificate records engine number VS 1361 9, body number F 16227 and a manual gearbox with overdrive, providing reassuring confirmation of its original specification. Having spent part of its life abroad, the car returned to UK soil in 1992 and has since benefitted from a comprehensive restoration, during which it was converted to right hand drive configuration. As part of this programme of works, a bespoke luggage compartment was crafted within the boot, enhancing both practicality and presentation. We are advised that the car has been in current ownership for some 24 years, reflecting a notably long and committed custodianship. Presented in an elegant deep maroon hue complemented by wire wheels and a matching interior, the car exudes the muscular yet refined character for which the XK150S is rightly celebrated. The history file includes Heritage documentation and period literature, underlining its authenticity and appeal.
The XK150 marked the final chapter of Jaguar’s seminal XK series that began with the XK120 in 1948. Introduced in 1957, the 150 featured a wider body, one piece windscreen and improved interior comfort, while the ‘S’ variant elevated performance still further through the fitment of a straight port cylinder head and triple SU carburettors, increasing output to a quoted 250bhp. Combined with four wheel Dunlop disc brakes, the XK150S offered performance and stopping power that placed it firmly at the forefront of late 1950s sports car engineering. Today, genuine ‘S’ specification Roadsters are among the most coveted of all XK derivatives.
The accompanying cherished registration ‘XKJ 150S’ is perfectly aligned with the model designation and represents a highly desirable addition in its own right, further enhancing the car’s presence and individuality.
