May 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 54

1991 Porsche 944 Turbo Cabriolet
Only 65,000 miles, finished in Grand Prix white with grey leather trim

Registration - J27 LGE

Chassis No. - WP0ZZZ95ZMN130538

M.O.T. - TBC

Odometer - 63,749 miles

This is a rare car, as a total of only 625 Turbo Cabriolets were built all told, just 100 of which were equipped with righthand drive. Of that 100, 50 or so were allocated to the Japanese, Australian and South African markets, meaning only c.50 were ever registered for use in the UK. The model was also one of the most powerful convertibles of its day, and capable of sprinting to 60mph in little more than 5.5 seconds and on to a terminal speed in excess of 160mph.

This particular smartly-presented example is presented in the smart combination of white bodywork, black hood and grey leather interior trim. In excess of £5,500 has been invested on the car in the last two years alone, during which Porsche specialists Loe Bank Motors of Bury have, among other things, attended to the air conditioning, electrical system and the resealing of the Porsche’s underside. The vendor now feels it is ‘as good as it can possibly be for its age and documented mileage of 63,749’, and he now classes the turbo engine and five-speed manual transmission as ‘excellent’ and the cabriolet bodywork (which has had two new wings), paintwork and upholstery as ‘good’. Overall, he describes the car as ‘not concours, but very good’ and is now offering it for sale complete with stainless steel exhaust system, stereo, full service history, collection of invoices for work carried out, pair of keys and a current MOT valid to September 21. 944 Turbo Cabriolets rarely come to market, and few match the quality of this one when the do. An opportunity not be missed.

In summary:

  • A very well presented example of a rare breed
  • Just four owners and a warranted 63,749 miles from new
  • Has benefited for a considerable level of recent maintenance
