February 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 55

1968 Land Rover Series IIA
A long wheelbase example equipped with HCU explorer body, it has been fully refurbished around a new chassis.

Registration - KVR 207G

Chassis No. - 27704656E

M.O.T. - November 2022

Series Land Rovers continue to be hot property, especially ones that have either led privileged lives or been professionally restored. ‘KVR 207G’ falls firmly into the latter category. A long wheelbase example equipped with HCU explorer body, it has been fully refurbished around a new chassis. Only recently it has been treated to new brakes and fuel tank and given a full service. The full length tilt houses a bench seat that folds down to create a double bed, while the Landie’s additional equipment includes a bike rack and tow pack. Finished in blue and trimmed in cloth, this go-anywhere 4x4 is nowadays considered by the vendor to have ‘excellent’ transmission, bodywork and paintwork and ‘good’ engine and interior trim, and he’s now offering it complete with a long MOT valid to November 12 next year.

The classic Land Rover was designed for light agricultural use and to create the cashflow required to kickstart Rover’s post-war passenger car production. The irony of its longevity is that production was only intended to run for two-three years. Instead, it rapidly became the workhorse of the world. The model steadily progressed from a single offering with 1.6-litre petrol engine to a complete family of long and short wheelbase derivatives with an ever increasing choice of engines. By the time of the Series IIA, production was at its all-time peak of over 60,000 vehicles per annum. In addition to record sales, the model dominated many world markets, accounting for around 90% of the 4x4 sector in Australia, Africa and the Middle East. The Series IIA is considered by many to be the most durable of all the Land Rover Series vehicles.

In summary:

  • Fully refurbished around a new chassis
  • A high capacity model with explorer body
  • Features a double bed, bike rack and tow pack
