  Lot 55

1969 Triumph TR6
Repatriated in 2020, converted to RHD and equipped with UK-specification SU carburettors

Registration - UBD 413G

Chassis No - CC27185L

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 34,790

Now here’s a very tidy-looking two-seater. We understand it came off line at Triumph’s Coventry factory on December 8, 1969, and was despatched to British Leyland Inc. in San Franciso two weeks later. At some point it emigrated from there to the equally car friendly climate of Perth, Western Australia, before finally being repatriated in 2015. Its familiar straight-six engine breaths through a pair of Mr SU’s carburettors, and the steering was evidently converted to righthand drive some years ago. The vendor describes ‘UBD 413G’ as ‘an honest, lovingly cared for, corrosion-free example, and in summary grades the engine, four-speed manual transmission, bodywork, red paintwork and black upholstery as ‘good’. This handsome Triumph is now being offered complete with black hood, torpedo-style door mirrors, high-backed bucket seats, leather rimmed steering wheel, stereo player, over-mats, spare wheel, chrome rocker cover and pancake air filters, plus a Heritage Certificate.

Triumph’s TR series began with the unveiling of a prototype (the TR1) at the 1952 London Motor Show. The TR2 was launched the following year, and so began a series of two-seater sports cars that ended in 1981 with the last of the TR8s. The evolution was steady but continuous, and the TR6 unveiled in 1968 was effectively a cleverly updated TR5. For the body revisions Triumph naturally turned to the Italian who had styled the TR4/TR5 – Michelotti. However, he could not meet their schedule and the squaring off of the nose and tail were eventually achieved by the German designers at Karmann. The car’s underpinnings were broadly as per the TR5. A total of 94,619 examples were produced, a mere 8,370 of which were sold on the home market.

In summary:

  • A very tidy export example repatriated in 2020
  • Converted to RHD and equipped with SU carburettors
  • Comes complete with BMIHT Heritage Certificate
