Registration - CWW 895Y
Chassis No. - SALLBAAH1AA174473
M.O.T. - November 2022
Odometer - 119,600
This tidily-presented short wheelbase example of the last of the Series Land Rovers matches NATO green bodywork to Limestone-coloured wheels and black interior trim. Originally yellow, it was supplied new to the West Yorkshire Metropolitan County Council Department of Highways & Engineering in October 1982. It still boasts its original chassis and 2.25-litre petrol engine, and has now covered a total of 119,600 miles in the hands of some 11 keepers. The vendor describes ‘CWW 895Y’ as being of ‘good stock appearance’ and currently classes the engine, bodywork and interior as ‘good’, and the transmission and paintwork as ‘average’. The venerable Landie features: a hard top with tailgate, freewheel hubs, Defender-style door-mounted mirrors, bonnet-mounted spare wheel, tow pack and rear work lamp. The suspension has recently been upgraded with parabolic springs, while the cab is equipped with the standard three-seat set-up and the rear compartment with four fold-up seats (complete with lap and diagonal belts) and a load mat. The vehicle is accompanied by some history and a current MOT certificate valid until November 30.
The ubiquitous Land Rover steadily progressed from a single offering to a family of long and short wheelbase derivatives with an ever increasing choice of engines. The Series III of 1971-1985 is the most common, of which 440,000 were produced. Outwardly it was almost identical the IIA, aside of a plastic rather than metal radiator grille. The diesel version benefited from a higher compression ratio and the gearbox from synchromesh on all ratios, while the cab featured a more modern, moulded plastic facia and the instrument cluster was moved from its long-standing home in the centre to the driver’s side.
