March 2023 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 58

1954 Morris Minor Tourer
Fully restored to concours standard

Registration - PNE 663

Chassis No. - FCB11/287107

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 1,485

All due respect to the Cowley workforce that made the Minor, but we very much doubt if any came off the production line looking quite as good as this one. Self-evidently the subject of a full bare-metal restoration in its original colour of Pearl Grey, it needs to be seen to be fully appreciated, and the only departures from original specification that we can spot are a later 948cc (Morris 1000) A Series engine and related alternator in place of what would have been a dynamo – ie very sensible, desirable upgrades. According to VDI Check, the vendor acquired ‘PNE 663’ as recently as October last year, thereby becoming its eighth keeper to date. He understandably has no hesitation in currently grading the engine, four-speed manual transmission, Tourer bodywork, paintwork, maroon upholstery and red carpets and hood as all being in ‘excellent’ condition. He is now offering the car complete with a ‘huge’ history file of invoices, photos of the restoration and copy of the Classics Monthly magazine in which the Morris starred in 2012.

There were two variants of the Minor at launch – a two-door Saloon and Tourer. The four-door Saloon followed in 1950 and the popular Traveller, Van and Pick-up versions completed the range two years later. The first versions, MMs, were produced from 1948 to 1953. The monocoque bodies were equipped with torsion bar suspension at the front and a live axle mounted on leaf springs at the rear. Power came from a 918cc straight-four, side-valve engine producing 27.5bhp. With the Series II of 1952, came a new engine – the A Series 803cc OHV unit. The more major update of 1956 saw the engine increased in capacity to 948cc (the car was now renamed the Minor 1000), the rear window enlarged and the split-screen front one replaced with a single glass.

In summary:

  • An immaculately restored example
  • Equipped with a later spec. Morris 1000 engine
  • Comes complete with a huge history file
