Spring 2021 Classics & Collectables Auction

  Lot 58

1973 Jaguar E Type V12 Roadster

Chassis No. - UD152265

Registration - MCY 446L

Odometer – 65,000

This gorgeous lefthand drive Series 3 E-type started life as an American export and apparently resided in one of that country’s drier car-friendly states until repatriated. It was first UK registered in February 2019 and has had just the two owners to date – ie one either side of the pond. A completely unmolested matching numbers example, it retains its factory quality shut lines, while its rare silver paintwork is described as ‘immaculate’ by the vendor. The overall effect is completed by black leather interior trim and hood and gleaming chrome wire wheels shod with white-walled tyres. This charismatic cat is also unusual in being equipped with the optional manual transmission – a feature avidly sought by today’s enthusiast classic car drivers. Currently displaying just 65,000 miles from new, ‘MCY 446L’ is now ready to deliver years of fun in the sun to a new keeper.

The last E-Type Jaguar rolled off the production line in 1975, yet the model still excites enthusiasts of all generations, its Malcolm Sayer–penned lines thought to be among the most striking ever to adorn a motorcar. From birth, the car was available as a fixed head Coupe or two-seat Roadster. For 1966, a 2+2 version of the Coupe was added to the range, which was 9in longer and featured a more vertical windscreen. The Series 3 version was introduced in 1971, virtually all examples of which were fitted with Jaguar’s new 5.3-litre V12 engine. The original wheelbase was discontinued and the revised car offered only as roadster or 2+2 coupe. Production continued until the E-Type was superseded by the XJS in 1975, by when c.15,000 V12-engined cars had been produced.

In summary:

  • A highly original, matching numbers car
  • Just two owners and 65,000 miles from new
  • Rare manual gearbox example
