September 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 59

Lot 59 - 2004 MK Indy

2004 MK Indy

Registration - XIW 8152

Chassis No. - PH1LJMK1NDY010504

M.O.T. - May 2023

Odometer - 2,400

The black bodywork of this very tidy-looking MK is teamed with bright orange wheels, roll cage, radiator grille and suspension components, the total effect of which is extremely eye-catching. Factory-built in 2004 and fully SVA approved, ‘XIW 8152’ is powered by a 4AGE 16-valve Toyota MR2 engine that drives through a five-speed Ford gearbox. The car has apparently benefited from a £1,000-plus worth of rolling road tuning and is described by the vendor as ‘very fast and super reliable’. In summary he regards the engine and transmission as ‘excellent’ and the bodywork, paintwork and black interior trim as ‘good’, and he is now selling this pocket rocket complete with documents relating to the rolling road session and a current MOT valid to May 22 next year.

The Indy is a product of MK Sportscars of Maltby near Rotherham. Clearly inspired by the ubiquitous Lotus Seven, it boasts independent rear suspension and features a number of Ford Sierra components, including the differential, drive shafts, front hubs and steering rack. It can be powered by a wide variety of engines, which have ranged from motorcycle powerplants to such staples as the Ford Pinto unit. It is understood some 200 Indys are produced per annum and exported all around the world.

In summary:

  • An extremely striking factory-built example
  • Powered by a Toyota MR2 engine
  • The subject of major rolling road tune-up
