  Lot 6

2003 Ford Focus ST 170
***NO RESERVE*** By repute, one of only c150 ST170 estates produced for the UK market

Registration - AD53 OSJ

Chassis No - WF0NXXGCDN3M40896

M.O.T. - November 2024

Odometer - 141,042

Have you seen one of these before – we hadn’t, and it seems there may have been as few as 150 produced, so it’s a very rare car. Its silver bodywork is matched to grey half-leather interior trim that’s complemented by blue cloth centre panels for the Recaro seats. According to VDI Check, the Focus has had a total of six keepers to date, the most recent of whom acquired the Ford three years ago. He informs us that it has recently been treated to a service, new brakes discs and pads all-round, and a replacement battery, and that the multi-spoke alloy wheels have been refurbished and shod with new tyres. He now classes the five-door bodywork as ‘excellent’, and the four-cylinder engine, five-speed manual gearbox, paintwork and upholstery as ‘good’. Unfortunately, the service history has been lost, but the vendor feels the Focus has been well looked after. The total mileage has yet to be verified but, according to VDI Check, it stood at 136,665 at the time of the 2017 MOT. We understand a new MOT should be in place by the time of the sale.

Launched in 2002, the ST170 was the Blue Oval’s first sport version of the Focus to be developed for international sale. Initially only available in saloon guise, it was powered by a 170bhp Cosworth-developed version of the company’s 2-litre Duratec four-cylinder engine. The unit drove through a six-speed Getrag manual gearbox, and was capable of powering the model from rest to 60mph in around 7.8 seconds and on to a terminal speed of over 130mph. Compared with the standard offering, the ST170 also featured larger brake discs front and rear, close ratio steering rack, multi-spoke alloy wheels, half-leather Recaro seats, and colour-coded bumpers, side beadings and door handles. The estate version of the ST170 was unveiled in 2003, but restricted to European sales only. The specification was as per the saloon, apart from the inclusion of Nivomat self-levelling dampers on the rear. Volumes are hard to come by, but some sources reckon as few as 150 examples were sold, which would suggest there are very few still on the road today.

In summary:

  • Thought to be one of only c.150 ST170 estates produced
  • The subject of recent maintenance
  • A new MOT has been promised by the time of the sale
