1988 Daimler Double-Six Series III

Registration - E76 TOE

Chassis No. - SADDDRLW3CA478924

M.O.T. - June 2022

Odometer - 44,330

The Double-Six was as outwardly subtle as it was luxurious, with only the badges distinguishing the model from its six-cylinder sibling. Good examples are increasingly highly prized, and ‘E76 TOE’ appears to fall into that category. It remains in the same attractive livery – Signal Red matched to magnolia-coloured leather upholstery – as when it was first registered on December 12, 1988. Though it has six recorded keepers to date, one was the supplying dealer and three emanated from just one family, so it is effectively a low ownership car, and a relatively low mileage one too that currently displays just 44,330 documented miles from new. The vendor informs us that the Double-Six ‘has remained in the UK all its life and is as immaculate to today as it was back in 1988’. She notes that it ‘drives like a dream, with effortless power’ and presently regards the bodywork, paintwork, interior trim, V12 engine and three-speed automatic transmission as all being in ‘good’ order. She is now offering the Daimler complete with a replacement service book containing some stamps, its original document case containing all the factory-supplied manuals and booklets, c.20 old MOT certificates that collectively support the recorded mileage, plus one valid for the next 12 months.

The Jaguar XJ Series and its Daimler counterparts were introduced in 1968. Some four years into production the 12-cylinder 5.3-litre XJ was offered for the first time, the Series I, II and III Daimler versions of which were dubbed the Double-Six; thereby reviving the famous Daimler model name of the vintage era. While the first generation of six-cylinder XJ models was replaced by the long-awaited all new XJ40 in 1986, the Double-Six continued unchanged until 1993.

In summary:

  • A very well presented low ownership, low mileage example
  • Comes with 12 months MOT
  • Amazing value in today’s market
