Every now and again one comes across an unmolested classic car that completely belies its age, and this remarkable 528i (E12) BMW would seem to be a perfect case in point. It has had just two keepers from new, the first of whom retained the saloon for no less than 37 years - their combined mileage stands at a mere 36,021. The bronze-painted bodywork has apparently had some remedial work to remove any blemishes, while the beige cloth interior remains in splendid condition with only a degree of very faint discolouration of the driver’s seat distinguishing it from one straight from the showroom. The car rides on an immaculate set of 14-inch steel wheels with perfect BMW centre caps. The most recent bout of maintenance was a full service carried out in January last year by Craven Garage of Stockport, who also fitted a new exhaust system, brake calipers and Bilstein dampers. A new Bosch battery, genuine BMW badges and headlights have also been installed in recent times. The car’s four-year old Michelin tyres have apparently covered just 2,000 miles or so to date, so should have plenty of wear left in them. Perhaps unsurprisingly the vendor currently considers the straight-six engine, desirable manual transmission, bodywork, paintwork and upholstery to all be in ‘excellent’ order, and he’s now offering this time warp 5 Series complete with the original owners’ manual, service book, stereo guide and a complete history of MOT tests, the last of which was passed just 33 miles ago, free of advisories. There can’t be too many E12 BMWs left in such pristine condition.
In summary:
'A Buyer’s Premium applies to the Hammer Price of this Lot if your bid is successful, as per the following; Motor Cars 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT), Motorcycles and Bicycles 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT); Registration Numbers 15% + VAT (minimum £50 + VAT); Automobilia 15% + VAT (minimum of £5 + VAT).'
