The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 61

2002 R50 John Cooper Works Club Sport Mini Cooper Race Car

Registraion - HT52 MXC

Chassis No. - WMWRC32010TG21212

M.O.T. - N/A

Odometer - 6,700 (unwarranted)

Here’s a unique opportunity – the option to purchase a restored,

ready-to race example from the original grid of John Cooper Challenge cars; No.37 of 45 that still bear its engine plate (JCW Club Sport #37). Over the past 18 months it has been totally refurbished with many new body panels, a full repaint in its original colour, and the application of painstakingly re-created decals. Road legal (though currently lacking an MOT), the MINI was refreshed at the beginning of last year by Kev of Sussex Road & Race - the car’s original builder when employed by JCW. He refreshed the brakes, repainted the calipers, replaced the handbrake cables, installed Powerflex Polybushes and gave the car a general service. The MINI’s very original specification includes: Bilstein JCW suspension with tarmac springs and increased negative camber; Safety Devices JCW full roll cage; JCW 92db exhaust with stainless steel manifold; upgraded ECU; Armtech electrical cut-off; OMP steering wheel; Sparco in-date racing seat; Sabelt 6-point harness; plumbed-in fire extinguisher; alloy tank guards; MSA window film. This very smartly presented and rare works competition car comes complete with MSA logbook covering both sprints and stage rallies, and is eligible for a host of series including the Celtic Speed Scottish Mini Cooper Cup; 750 Motor Club Tin Tops, and MSN Circuit Rally Championship, to name just a few. It is also accompanied by some spare BMW MINI ‘pepper pot’ alloy wheels and a selection of Dunlop Direzza 195/50x15 dry tyres.

When BMW launched the new MINI marque in late 2000, its range naturally featured options whose names were instantly familiar to any fan of the original incarnation of this iconic small car – the Cooper and Cooper S. In 2002 MINI went one step further, with the John Cooper Works (JCW) conversions produced by Michael Cooper, son of the legendary John.

In summary:

  • 37 from the original grid of John Cooper Challenge cars
  • Completely refurbished and ready to compete once again
  • A unique opportunity for racers and collectors of the BMW MINI
