  Lot 62

1962 Lotus Seven Series 2

Registration - NEB 90

Chassis No. - SB1309

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 40,000

This exceedingly smart little Lotus has been the subject of a complete restoration, since when it has apparently travelled less than 10 miles. The original chassis, panelling and interior were all retained, but the many new parts included: engine hoses, brake discs, calipers, master cylinder and lines; clutch master cylinder and actuation lever; suspension bushes and bolts. The radiator was re-cored, the swirl pot rebuilt and the K&N Jupiter wheels re-cut, painted, lacquered and shod with a full set of brand new Pirelli tyres. The Seven is powered by a Cosworth 1500cc pre-crossflow engine, that’s fed by a pair of 40 DCOE Weber carburettors and drives through a four-speed manual transmission to a Standard 10 rear axle. The vendor, perhaps rather modestly, now describes the green and polished aluminium bodywork, red interior trim, engine and gearbox as all being in ‘good’ condition. He volunteers that ‘the carburettors require further work as cold starting can be a problem, yet the engine runs beautifully when warm’. Overall, he feels the Lotus is a ‘a very sound and original car that is now ready for a full shakedown’. It is being offered complete with Mountney leather-rimmed steering wheel and a selection of historic photos, including one of the car racing in the rain. An undoubtedly desirable example of one of the most loved British classics, whose odometer currently registers a modest 40,000 miles.

Penned by automotive genius Colin Chapman, the Lotus Seven was manufactured from 1957 to 1973, at which point the rights were sold to Caterham who continue to build cars in exactly the same vein to this day.

In summary:

  • Fully restored with less than 10 new miles on the clock
  • 1500cc Cosworth power
  • Comes complete with some historic images
