March 2023 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 62

1978 TVR 3000M
Famous ex-press car

Registration - FCA 340S

Chassis No. - 4442FM

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 67,201

Aficionados of the TVR marque will be familiar with this fabulous 3000M that comes complete with a notable backstory. It was commissioned new by what we once knew as ‘Boots the Chemists’ to serve as a competition prize in June 1978. Rather than keep it, the winner sold the car back to the manufacturer who duly adorned it with their famous ‘TVR 100’ registration plate, and pressed into service as a show/press car, as which it was regularly displayed throughout the country between March and November 1979. In total it has had seven keepers to date, one of whom was the renowned TVR specialist David Gerald who apparently treated it to a new chassis.

The vendor acquired what is now ‘FCA 340S’ in November 2019 after it had for some time languished unused under a cover in somebody’s garage. Fully cognisant of the car’s unique history he then set about restoring it to its former glory, while retaining its originality. Indeed, the only real departure from factory specification concerns the engine, the cylinder heads for which have been uprated to stage 1 level by Burton Power as part of a comprehensive overhaul – it also now benefits from a full stainless steel exhaust system by JP Exhausts. The chassis was rubbed down and refinished in anti-rust paint, the braking system given a thorough going over and the tan/oatmeal-coloured interior rejuvenated rather than renewed. The striking red paintwork has remained fade-free though does apparently now have a degree of micro-blistering. This historic TVR is now being offered for sale complete with: the spare wheel shod with its original Pirelli tyre; the factory-fitted Radiomobile radio/cassette player; a USB drive containing over 750 images of the restoration; the car’s original build data; a recently won ‘Best Car’ certificate; a copy of an article featuring Mary Johnson of Melton who won the car in a Boots writing competition. The TVR’s odometer currently stands at a warranted 67,201 miles from new. A unique opportunity for TVR fanatics everywhere.

In summary:

  • A truly historic member of the TVR family
  • The subject of a detailed and highly empathetic restoration
  • Presented in immaculate order throughout
