The Bolesworth Castle November 2023 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 62

1989 Rover Mini 30
***NO RESERVE*** One of just 2,800 examples of the ‘30’ to leave the factory with manual transmission

Registration - G227 XLK

Chassis No - SAXXL2S1N20433588

M.O.T. - September 2024

Odometer - 76,000

The vendor of this exceedingly smart-looking classic Mini informs us that it recently benefitted from being stripped and rebuilt. Apparently, its very appealing shade of metallic red paintwork is similar to but not the exact replica of the Cherry Red in which it left the factory, the effect of which is enhanced by the car’s black roof and new, Yokohama-shod Minilite-style alloy wheels. The Mini has had a total of 11 keepers to date, the most recent of whom has retained the car for eight years, and presently classes its manual transmission and bodywork as ‘excellent’, the four-cylinder engine, electrical system and paintwork as ‘good’, and the upholstery as ‘average’. ‘G227 XLK’ is now being offered complete with glass sunroof, sports exhaust, Springalex leather-covered steering wheel, a spare set of keys, some recent service history, a selection of receipts relating to the restoration work carried out and the new parts fitted, and a current MOT certificate valid into the September of next year. The odometer presently indicates a very credible, though unwarranted, 76,151 total miles.

It is doubtful if any other model of car can match the classic Mini for the number of special editions it inspired. The so-called Mini 30 is a case in point. Unveiled in June 1989, it was a UK-only offering created to celebrate the popular little car’s 30th anniversary. A total of 3,000 were produced - 2,000 in Cherry Red and 1,000 in Black. Of the total, no less than 2,800 sported manual gearboxes, and 600 were equipped with the optional glass sunroof. Power came from a 998cc single carburettor version of the seemingly immortal A Series engine. The half leather interior trim was black with red piping and the cars rode on Minilite-style alloy wheels.

In summary:

  • A very smartly presented, recently restored example
  • One of just 2,800 manual gearbox Mini 30s built
  • Serviced and MOT’d just two months ago
