Lot 63

1956 Ford Thames 300E

Registration - WBJ 334

Chassis No. - 300E-200857

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 55,502

This reminder of how local goods were delivered before ‘white van man’ became a fixture of our British roads, this charming 300E is finished in beige and trimmed in grey. It has remained in the current ownership for the last 10 years, during the first six of which it featured at many shows, since when it has been kept in dry storage. The vendor remarks that it ‘retains its original gutter rails’ and he presently considers the bodywork, paintwork, interior trim and three-speed manual gearbox to all be in ‘excellent’ order, and the engine to be ‘good’. A rare opportunity to acquire a period van to serve as a company promotional vehicle or for fun involvement in such major classic events as Goodwood’s Festival of Speed and Revival Meeting.

Based on the Ford Anglia/Prefect 100E saloon and sharing its bodyshell and 1172cc side-valve engine with the Squire estate car, the 300E van was in production from 1954 to 1961, during which no less than 196,885 examples were manufactured.

In summary:

  • A seemingly very tidy and potentially useful example
  • Currently displaying a credible but unwarranted 55,502 total miles
  • Comes complete with period colour-keyed sun visor

Location of Vehicle - Bilston, Wolverhampton
