May 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 63

1964 Renault Estafette

Registration - RCA 431B

Chassis No. - 8101098

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 67,000

Here’s something we don’t see every day! First introduced in 1959, the front-wheel drive Renault Estafette van is an unusual sight on British roads. The vendor of this 1964 example informs us that it benefitted from a restoration four years ago, with works including a respray to the current attractive denim blue colour scheme. Mechanical improvements included reconditioning of the gearbox, an engine overhaul and replacement of the brakes.

The interior includes a sink and stove, and has been fitted out using reclaimed wood and re-purposed sack cloth, which adds a fun rustic touch. Ready for use as a camper straight away, it would also lend itself well to conversion into a vintage coffee van or similar.

The vendor informs us that the van starts and runs reliably, and that the underside is ‘rock solid and protected’. An unusual and eye-catching choice for many summer getaways to come – just add your picnic hamper!

'A Buyer’s Premium applies to the Hammer Price of this Lot if your bid is successful, as per the following;  Motor Cars 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT), Motorcycles and Bicycles 15% + VAT (minimum £100 + VAT); Registration Numbers 15% + VAT (minimum £50 + VAT); Automobilia 15% + VAT (minimum of £5 + VAT).'

Potential buyers should satisfy themselves with the description and condition of each lot prior to sale. Each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ as per the terms and conditions for the auction, buyers are asked to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out the service. Any disputes over descriptions will not be entertained.

Sold for £5,417
