The Bolesworth Castle November 2023 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 63

1993 Rover Mini Cooper SPI
Less than 19,000 warranted miles from new, supported by full service history

Registration - L587 XDX

Chassis No. - SAXXNNAYCBD079740

M.O.T. - August 2024

Odometer - 18,934

Finished in the eye-catching combination of white over red, ‘L587 XDX’ was supplied new to Knights of Manchester and first registered on the ninth of December 1993. It looks permanently set for action, yet has led a very quiet life to date, and in fact travelled just 320 miles in the last 11 years, and a warranted 18,934 in total! It transpires that while in the care of the previous owner, the matching-numbers, home-market Mini was secreted in a barn from 1998 until 2011, at which point it was acquired by the vendor. Since waking the Cooper from its slumbers, he has refurbished the brake system and renewed the alternator, fuel pump, fan belt and tyres. He now classes the SPI A Series engine, manual four-speed gearbox and seemingly immaculate black interior trim as ‘excellent’, the bodywork as ‘good’, and the paintwork as ‘average’. This attractive little Rover is now being offered complete with unused spare wheel and toolkit, factory radio/cassette player, pair of keys, a full service history (we understand a fresh service will be carried out prior to the sale), full owner’s book pack, and an advisory-free MOT into August of next year.

The Mini’s association with the Cooper Car Company of F1 fame was formed in 1961, and for the next 10 years or so all performance versions of the little car bore the Cooper badge. Their place in history was sealed with outright victory in the Monte Carlo rallies of 1964, 1965, 1966 (from which the team was subsequently erroneously disqualified) and 1967. Many other rally and race successes were accrued before the relationship was shelved in the early 1970s. But you can’t keep a good name down, and it reappeared under Rover’s control almost 20 years later. The initial offering was actually a touch slower than the best of the ‘60s cars, but proved sufficiently popular that, from 1992, the Cooper Minis were fitted with a punchier version of the 1275cc engine fed by a single point fuel injection system (SPI), the performance of which was more worthy of the famous badge.

In summary:

  • Just 18,934 warranted miles from new
  • Recent maintenance, plus the promise of a service prior to the sale
  • Comes complete with full service history and MOT into August 2024
