The Bolesworth Castle November 2023 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 64

1994 Rover Mini Sprite
Featuring a bespoke upgraded interior, including black leather sports bucket seats

Registration - L716 AWP

Chassis No - SAXXNYADBBD085206

M.O.T. - July 2024

Odometer - 47,497

The interior of this cheeky little Mini has undergone quite a transformation since it rolled off the production line in 1994. The fabric interior trim has been replaced with black leather and the driver and front passenger now sit on bucket seats rather than the standard offering. The car’s sporting feel is further increased by a Moto-Lita Paddy Hopkirk steering wheel and matching gearknob, uprated red and black dashboard and centre console, and drilled aluminium door handles and window winders. In-car entertainment is provided by a Sony media receiver and Edge speaker system. The cheerful red paintwork is complemented by a white roof and bonnet stripes, and the Sprite sits on 12” Minilite-style alloy wheels. ‘L716 AWP’ has recently benefited from a full service, new water pump and spark plugs. The vendor, who has had the Mini for the last 10 years, states that the 1275cc engine, four-speed transmission, interior trim, paintwork and electrics are all ‘good’. Apparently the speedometer was changed in 2016, and the car has in fact now covered 62,314 miles rather than the 47,497 currently displayed. The Sprite comes complete with an alarm, factory book pack, some service history and an MOT valid until July 6, 2024.

It is doubtful if any other model of car can match the classic Mini for the number of special editions it inspired. The Sprite was created in the autumn of 1983 in anticipation of the model’s upcoming 25th anniversary. It revived a name last used for the baby Austin-Healey back in 1971, and offered an intermediate level of trim between that of the Mini City on which it was based and the plusher Mini Mayfair. From May 1992 the original 998cc powerplant was superseded by a detuned 1275cc Cooper carburettor one, while in August 1994 this was itself replaced by a 1275cc single-point fuel injected unit. The model rode on alloy wheels and featured Mini Special wheel arch extensions, twin door mirrors, and 1275 GT instrumentation.

In summary:

  • A smart, charismatic little car with sporty interior upgrades
  • Comes with partial history and current MOT valid to July 6, 2024
  • A speedo change means the true mileage is 62,314 rather than 47,497 ( Original clocks included in the sale)
