The Gold Cup Classic Car Auction

  Lot 65

1966 MG Midget
In current ownership for over 20 years

Registration - CEC 888D

Chassis No. - GAN347147

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 36,000

The MKII Midget on offer has remained within the current ownership for no less than 20 years but driven just 540 miles since October 2017, when its last MOT was issued – the odometer currently registers a credible though unwarranted total of just 36,000 miles from new. ‘CEC 888D’ features black bodywork that’s teamed with white-piped black interior trim, the total effect of which is offset by the car’s very smart set of Minator alloy wheels. The car has benefited from ongoing maintenance, was treated to a new windscreen in 2016, and rear wheel cylinders, kingpins and bushes in 2018. In addition: the anti-roll bar bushes have been renewed; the vinyl interior retrimmed; European–standard fuel lines, seat belts and a stainless steel exhaust installed; and the underside finished in gloss black. The vendor currently rates the 1098cc A Series engine and four-speed manual transmission as ‘excellent’, and the bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as ‘good’. He is now offering the MG complete with both hard and soft tops and tonneau cover, torpedo-style sports wing mirrors, and a new (yet to be fitted) combined oil pressure/water temperature gauge, as the current water temperature one is hors de combat. A smart little two-seater deserving of an appreciative new home.

The MKII Midget of 1964 brought with it wind-up windows, opening quarter lights, external door handles, a curved windscreen, and semi-elliptic rear springs in place of the original quarter elliptics, resulting in a superior ride. Thanks to a stiffer engine block and larger main bearings the engine was endowed with a modest hike from 56 to 59bhp. Some 26,601 MKII Midgets were manufactured across two years of production.

In summary:

  • Has remained within the current ownership for the last 20 years
  • Comes with hard and soft tops and tonneau cover
  • Only used in dry weather and driven just 540 miles since October 2017
