Lot 65

1986 Range Rover Vogue

Registration - D900 XGU

Chassis No. - 5ALLHAML3CA265924

M.O.T. - September 2021

Odometer - 116,000

This early 3.5-litre EFI V8 with four-speed ZF transmission has most recently been used for weekends away and caravan holidays. It is finished in white, trimmed in grey cloth and rides on its original black-painted three-spoke alloy wheels. Apparently the previous keeper replaced the outer sills and rear wheel arches, but the chassis has never required any welding. Recent maintenance has included the renewal of: the rear A frame ball joint; springs and dampers; oil and filter for both the engine and gearbox; plug leads; and distributor cap. The vendor volunteers that the self-levelling system is in working order, as is the air-conditioning that was re-gassed in 2020. He presently considers the bodywork, interior trim, V8 engine and automatic transmission to all be in ‘good’ order and the paintwork to be ‘average’. According to the odometer, the seven-owner Vogue has driven 116,797 miles to date, and is now available for sale complete with a pair of keys and a current MOT valid to September 17 this year.

Far from competing with the likes of the Ford Bronco that had inspired its creation, the David Bache-penned Range Rover created a whole new genre of go-anywhere vehicles. It was based around a box section chassis and steel ‘safety frame’ onto which the lightweight outer panels were bolted. Power came from the ubiquitous Rover V8 – initially in 3.5-litre guise. This was connected to a permanent fourwheel drive system for optimum traction – a transfer box offered a full set of high and low gear ratios. Suspension was by long travel coil springs all round and braking by discs front and rear.

In summary:

  • Outer sills and rear wheel arches replaced by previous keeper
  • Recent maintenance includes oil and filter renewals for engine and gearbox
  • The specification includes a car phone
