May 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 66

1972 MG Midget

Registration - KEG 760L

Chassis No. - GAN5-123819G

M.O.T. - 13th March 2023

Odometer - 33,655

This charming little round wheel arch MG Midget has been in its current family ownership for twenty years, during which time it has been very well restored, maintained and pampered.

According to the maintenance records for the vehicle, the engine was replaced with a 1275cc exchange unit by a previous owner in September 1996, and the vendor estimates that the total mileage of the exchange unit is circa 38,700 miles.

The vendor informs us that ‘KEG 760L’ underwent a comprehensive restoration, starting in 2002, following which the vehicle was returned to the road in 2013. A transfer of ownership within the family also took place at this time, and the car has covered just over 2,000 miles since. The speedometer was replaced during the restoration, hence the current recorded mileage showing 33,655.

Body work carried out during the restoration included new front inner wheel arches, cills, boot floor and a full professional re-spray in two-pack Glacier White. The underbody has been left painted so that it can be more easily inspected, and the owner assures us that this is in similarly excellent condition to the rest of the car.

Numerous mechanical parts were replaced during the re-build, including the brakes, front and rear suspension, steering, battery and tyres. The gearbox was also reconditioned in late 2021.

Internally, the fascia has been professionally restored in the correct black crackle paint, and the seats have been recently re-covered, making for a very smart and comfortable cockpit. A new vinyl hood, rear tonneau cover and spare wheel cover have also been recently fitted.

The Midget starts and drives as it should, and appears to be in excellent condition throughout, having been very well cared for and always garaged when not in use. The current mot is valid until March 2023 and the car is accompanied by an extensive history file containing the majority of invoices from the restoration, a number of old mots including every mot since 2013, current V5C registration document, and maintenance manual. A selection of useful small spares will also be supplied with the car, and a steel roll-over bar can be collected from the vendor if desired.
