The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 69

1969 Daimler V8-250
** NO RESERVE **

Registration - HUM 191G

Chassis No. - 1K5279BW

M.O.T. - July 2023

Odometer - 64,467

This lovely Daimler came off line on May 1, 1969 and was supplied new to its first owner the following month by Henlys of Bournemouth. It remains in its original very attractive livery of Regency Red paintwork and beige leather interior trim and rides on chrome wire wheels shod with Michelin XVS tyres. There is no obvious sign of the corrosion that can affect these fine cars and the vendor, who’s owned the 250 for the last five years and always kept it garaged and maintained as required, presently regards its V8 engine, automatic transmission, four-door bodywork, paintwork and nicely-patinated upholstery as all being in ‘good’ condition. We understand ‘HUM 191G’ has covered relatively few miles since being treated to new anti-roll bar links and bushes, a fresh power steering pump filter and other service-related items. It is now being offered complete with a period-correct Radiomobile push-button radio, a pair of quarterlight rear view mirrors and comprehensive history file. A good-looking example currently displaying an unwarranted but eminently credible 64,467 miles.

The Daimler V8-250 was a derivative of the all-conquering MKII Jaguar saloon. It took its name from the engine that powered it – a lightweight, eight-cylinder unit of 2548cc designed by Edward Turner; the aluminium hemispherical cylinder heads of which closely resembled those of the Triumph motorcycle engine which had already made him famous.

Turner’s silky smooth V8 was first seen in the Daimler SP250 launched in 1959. Following the merger between Jaguar and Daimler the following year, the new company decided the V8 was the perfect basis for an upmarket version of the MKII Jaguar. Being more powerful than Jaguar’s own 2.4-litre straight-six engine, the V8 endowed the saloon with greater performance, and being lighter it resulted in less weight over the car’s front wheels, and therefore arguably superior handling and more nimble steering. The V8-250 continued in manufacture until production of all MKII derivatives ceased in 1969, by which time some 17,620 of the Daimler version had been made.

In summary:

  • A well-presented example, displaying 64,467 miles from new
  • Attractively finished with Regency Red bodywork and beige interior
  • Comes with comprehensive history file
