  Lot 7

1968 Triumph Bonneville T120

Registration - AHJ 561E

Chassis No. - T120RDU60883

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 00285

AHJ 561E’ is a matching-numbers, unit-construction Bonneville that’s been part of a private collection since 2019. Finished in damson, cream and black it was apparently the subject of a restoration around three year ago, since when it’s been carefully stored and maintained and in fact still needs running in. The work carried out included a full overhaul of the engine, brakes (it features the favoured twin leading-shoe front set up), electrical system, speedometer and rev-counter, and the vendor now considers the twin-cylinder 649cc engine, four-speed gearbox, frame, suspension, brightwork and cycle parts to all be in ‘excellent’ order, and is now selling the Triumph for somebody else to enjoy. Named after the famous salt flats of Utah, the Bonneville line has so far comprised three generations of parallel-twin four-stroke motorcycles, over three separate production runs. Always popular in the USA, the 650cc T120 racked up no less than 28,000 sales there in 1967, its peak year. The much-vaunted Edward Turner-designed engine was also a prime choice for the café racers of the day, and powered no end of Tribsas (BSA frame) and Tritons (featherbed Norton frame).
