The Bolesworth Castle November 2023 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 7

1990 BMW 318i Lux
***NO RESERVE*** A nine-keeper, 160k-mile example, with full service history

Registration - H3 JPB

Chassis No. - WBAAF52030EG10135

M.O.T. - December 2023

Odometer - 159,000

The E30 BMW had a subtlety of design that still looks fresh to this day. The cars were well made too, and good ones are still keenly sought. This particular example boasts metallic black paintwork that’s paired with grey cloth upholstery, and it these days rides on a set of recently-added wide-rim aftermarket alloy wheels. We understand the suspension has also been renewed and upgraded since the vendor acquired the BMW in July last year. He now considers the straight-four engine, five-speed manual gearbox, two-door saloon bodywork, paintwork and upholstery to all be in ‘good’ condition. ‘H3 JPB’ is now being offered complete with factory-fitted sunroof, Sony stereo system, the original spare wheel and tools, and a large folder containing a full service history, invoices and receipts and old MOTS, plus a current one valid into next month. The currently indicated mileage of 159,650 appears to be supported by the BMW’s MOT record.

Now in its seventh generation, BMW’s 3 Series is an automotive phenomenon and unique among the world’s executive expresses. Since succeeding the 2002 model in 1975, it has generally accounted for 30 per cent of the company’s annual car sales, is the bestselling car in its class, almost as well known in America, Asia and Australia as it is in Europe, and has frequently outsold much cheaper rivals. The model’s second incarnation, the E30, took to the roads in 1982. During its 12-year production run it could be purchased in no less than four body styles – two and four-door saloon, five-door touring and two-door convertible. Temporarily dropped in 1985, the 318i reappeared in 1987 sporting a new SOHC powerplant, the output of which was 111bhp and 119 lb ft of torque. Suspension was independent all round by MacPherson struts, lower wishbones and coil springs at the front and semi-trailing arms and coil springs at the rear. Steering was by rack and pinion.

In summary:

  • A nine-keeper, 159,650-mile example
  • Equipped with sunroof, Sony stereo and aftermarket alloy wheels
  • Comes with full service history and current MOT
