‘M118 CCA’ was first registered in April 1995, since when it has had only three keepers, the most recent of whom has retained the cabriolet since 2003. It is a tidy-looking example, whose silver bodywork is teamed with black patterned cloth interior trim and a black hood. It rides on seven-spoke alloy wheels and currently indicates a total mileage to date of 122,800. Wind-in-the-hair motoring is rarely more affordable than this.
The cabriolet version of the ubiquitous Golf first saw the light of day in 1979. It was built entirely by Karmann at Osnabruck – they carried out every process from the stamping of the bodies to the final assembly. Aside of a larger fuel tank and smaller spare tyre from 1984 onwards, the specification remained unchanged until the MKI version was replaced in 1993 by one based on the Golf MKIII – there was never a cabriolet version of the MKII Golf
