An Auction of Classic and Performance Cars and Motorcycles

  Lot 71

1948 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup LWB
Fitted with a small block 305ci V8

Registration - LXS 850

Chassis No. - WA92166463

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - TBC

The small block 305ci V8 by which this handsome pickup is nowadays powered was fitted Stateside in c.2016, since when the truck has travelled 28,000 miles. Three years later the Chevy crossed The Pond from California to the UK and was promptly treated to a full body restoration, during which the load bed was relined in oak and an oak tool chest installed behind the cab. The pickup’s metallic blue bodywork is complemented by a buttoned vinyl blue seat, and blue cloth lined roof and door cards, carpets and blue seat belts. The 5.7-litre V8 powerplant sports Edelbrock alloy rocker covers and pancake air filter, and the whole ensemble rides on a set of Boyd Coddington alloy wheels shod with Goodrich tyres on the rear and Falken on the front. The lady vendor presently considers the engine, automatic transmission, bodywork, paintwork and upholstery to all be in ‘excellent’ order, and is now offering this attractive item of period Americana complete power steering conversion and selection of related invoices.

General Motors’ Advance Design Series of trucks, represented the company’s first post-war reshape and were claimed to be bigger, stronger and sleeker than the AK model they replaced. The newcomers quickly acquired a loyal following and were produced with only minor amendments from 1947 to 1955, during which period the Chevrolet brand topped the American truck sales charts. There were five offerings: the 3100 (1/4 ton), 3600 (3/4 ton), 3800 (1 ton), Thriftmaster and Loadmaster variants. The 3100 model has long since been a favourite of the custom fraternity both in the US and overseas.

In summary:

  • Imported from the dry state of California in 2019
  • The subject of a full body restoration on arrival in the UK
  • Fitted with a new small block 305ci V8 c.seven years ago
