The Gold Cup Classic Car Auction

  Lot 71

1973 Triumph TR6
Subject to an extensive restoration

Registration - NKW 999M

Chassis No. - CR27490

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 1,636

‘NKW 999M’ was first registered on September 5, 1973, since when it is understood to have been treated to not one but two restorations – one in the early 1990s which concentrated on the body/chassis and another as recently as 2020 that focused on the mechanicals. During the latter rebuild: the bores of the 2498cc fuel-injected engine were honed; the crankshaft polished; the cylinder head refurbished with new valves, guides and cam followers; the dynamo overhauled; and new piston rings, shells and seals, high torque starter motor, full stainless steel exhaust system and spin-off oil filter installed. The manual overdrive gearbox was overhauled along with the propshaft, and the brakes, steering and suspension all fully rebuilt with many new parts. The cooling system was uprated courtesy of a high efficiency alloy radiator, multi-vane water pump and electric cooling fan, while the fuel system benefited from a new high pressure Bosch pump, alloy tank and new metering unit.

Even the heating system and full range of electrical components were overhauled as required. The interior was equally refreshed with new walnut facia, carpets, seat foams and covers, door cards, wheels arch covers and Moto-Lita woodrim steering wheel. Finished in red and trimmed in black vinyl, this delightful TR rides on period correct disc wheels shod with Nexen tyres all round and complemented by polished stainless steel wheel trims. The black painted underside is clean enough to eat off and the car is said to ‘drive as well as it looks’. It is now offered for purchase complete with good hood, tonneau cover, the original handbook, and a selection of old MOTs and invoices dating back to 1992. A stunning example of an increasingly sought after classic.

In summary:

  • Restored in the early 1990s and again in 2020
  • Most major systems uprated to some degree
  • Understood to drive as well as it looks.
