November 2021 Classics Auction

  Lot 72

1990 Range Rover SE
Previously used by a successful businessman as his Monaco run around

Registration - H991 NRU

Chassis No. - SALLHAMM4GA435316

M.O.T. - December 2021

Odometer - 85,125

A lefthand drive export model, ‘H991 NRU’ was delivered new to Monaco in 1990 where it reportedly served as a runabout for a successful local businessman, and it retains a Monte Carlo badge on the rear to this day. It was first UK registered in December 2001, since when it has had four keepers who appear to have used the vehicle relatively sparingly, as the total mileage still only stands at an unwarranted 85,125. At some stage has been treated to an LPG conversion but, while the injection equipment remains, the tank has been removed. The vendor currently grades the automatic transmission as ‘excellent’ and the 3.9-litre V8 engine, four-door bodywork, white paintwork and brown leather interior trim as ‘good’. In summary, he says the Range Rover is ‘in good general condition for its year, though could now benefit from ‘a degree of non-structural cosmetic attention’. He is now offering it complete with tow bar and related electrics, good tyres, spare wheel and current MOT valid into December. Spares and accessories include the original multi piece tool kit and original jack and wheel braces, a brand new set of mud flaps and fittings and an original hand book for the Range Rover in French.

The David Bache-penned Range Rover created a whole new genre of go-anywhere vehicles. It was based around a box section chassis and steel ‘safety frame’ onto which the lightweight outer panels were bolted. Power came from the ubiquitous Rover V8 which was connected to a permanent fourwheel drive system for optimum traction. Suspension was by long travel coil springs all round and braking by discs front and rear. Though what is now known as the Range Rover Classic (1970-1996) changed relatively little over the years, the last of the line nevertheless benefited from bigger engines (3.9 or 4.2-litres), superior roadholding, more luxurious interiors etc.

In summary:

  • A lefthand drive export model first registered in Monaco
  • Converted to run on LPG, but the tank is no longer fitted
  • Described as ‘in good general condition for its year’
  • Original multi piece tool kit and original jack and wheel braces included
  • Brand new set of mud flaps and fittings to be included
  • Original Range Rover handbook in French!
