The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 73

1957 Morris ISIS
A credible 51,000 miles

Registration - EHF 828

Chassis No. - SAT11/12555

M.O.T. - April 2024

Odometer - 51,000

‘EHF 828’ has had just six keepers since being first registered in December 1957, and is presented in remarkably original condition as well as with just 51,000 miles to its name, courtesy of being dry stored for 40 years from 1978. In 2020 it was the subject of a reconditioning programme that included a new set of Pirelli tyres, relining of the clutch and brake shoes, a replacement heater matrix and setting up of the SU carburettors, as well as a general service and thorough checkover. Its very straight-looking green bodywork is matched to nicely patinated green leather interior trim. The vendor has only added around 250 miles to the Morris since acquiring the car last year, and currently grades its straight-six engine and four-door bodywork as ‘excellent’, and the four-speed manual transmission, paintwork and upholstery as ‘good’. He informs us that this lovely British classic has been thoroughly Waxoyled underneath and is now offering it complete with a current MOT valid to April 17 next year.

The Isis moniker was first employed by Morris as far back as 1939 and then resurrected after a 20-year gap for BMC’s 1955 replacement of the Morris Six. A six-cylinder saloon based on the four-cylinder Morris Oxford of the day, the newcomer that became known as the Series I model was only in production for two years, during which 8,541 examples were manufactured. The history of the Series II version is similar, with a production span of two years resulting in just 3,614 cars, making them rare then and very rare now. The updated styling of the Series II included a more elaborate mesh grille, chrome side strips and a pair of modest rear fins. The output of its 2.6-litre straight-six engine was 90bhp, which a Motor road test of the time proved was sufficient for a 0-60mph time of 17.6 seconds and a terminal speed of 90mph. The powerplant drove through either a four-speed manual gearbox (with or without the optional £63 overdrive) or an automatic unit. Further to another realignment of its considerable stable of saloons, BMC discontinued the Series II Isis during 1958 in favour of the Wolseley 6/99.

In summary:

  • A very well-presented and original survivor of a notably rare model
  • Dry stored from 1978 to 2018 – hence the low mileage of 51,000
  • Comes complete with almost unused tyres and an MOT to April
