November 2021 Classics Auction

  Lot 74

1930 Singer Junior

Registration - CF 9768

Chassis No. - 21518

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 10,851

What a picture this car is. Below the fabric-covered roof it is finished in brown over fawn, split by a neat red coachline. As you might expect from the gleaming condition, it has recently been refurbished and is said to be ‘in good working order and ready to be used and enjoyed’. Trimmed in brown, the interior is as immaculate as the exterior and a sight to behold, while the underside is further evidence of extensive workmanship. Perhaps somewhat harshly the vendor currently classes the engine, transmission and upholstery as ‘good’ and the body and paintwork as ‘average’. He informs us that the crown wheel and pinion and tyre inner tubes have recently been replaced and the wire wheels re-spoked, while the engine had already been rebuilt by the previous keeper. He is now selling the Singer complete with an original copy of the ‘Book of the Singer Junior’, a selection of Singer Owners’ Club magazines and photos of the restoration work that has been conducted on this fine specimen over the years.

Singer introduced the Junior at the 1926 London Motorshow. It was equipped with a four-cylinder overhead camshaft engine of 858cc, three-speed gearbox, inverted cone clutch, quarter-elliptic front springs, six volt electrics, gravity fuelling and disc wheels shod with 27 X 4 inch tyres. By modern standards it was a tiny motorcar, being just 11ft long, 4ft 6in wide and weighing in at a mere 11.75cwt. While the first Junior was an open touring car, the model was soon offered in an array of other body styles, and by 1928 the was primarily responsible for the company being Britain’s third largest manufacturer of the day.

In summary:

  • Recently refurbished and in good working order
  • A great looking car, always admired at shows
  • Complete with hand crank, side-mounted spare wheel and brass fire extinguisher
